PURPOSE:To shorten test processing time in a manufacturing process by obtaining a test recording pattern which makes possible the detection of faulty recording elements responsible for the non-uniformity of a mixed color state, the misaligned position of recording elements and the displacement of one recording head from its position relative to the other recording head. CONSTITUTION:Data is recorded by a specified length, to begin with, using the first recording head of the heads in their arranged order. In this case, a reference color, for example, cyan(C) is discharged from the ejection aperture to record data as the head moves. Consequently, a stepped pattern is obtained in cyan(C). Next, the ejection apertures of yellow(Y) and magenta(M) in the recording head are driven, then a pattern is recorded in mixed color red(R) so that it becomes adjacent to the stepped pattern. After that, green(G) which is a mixed color of yellow(Y) and cyan(C), black(Bk) and cyan(C) are used for recording likewise in that order. In addition, a pattern in cyan(C) extending in a main scan direction is recorded adjoining a pattern formed by ejection apertures Non', Non'', Non''' which constitute stepped patterns in red(R), green(G) and black(Bk) respectively. Thus it is possible to detect defects such as faulty discharge, misaligned position of ejection apetures(tilt), erroneous timing of ejection and displacement of recording heads from their correct attachment positions. |
