The device has a pre-compacting chamber in the form of a rectangular channel (1) with a base flap (2) which can swivel down for opening. The side walls (1a, 1b) of the channel can be moved apart across the longitudinal direction and in the expanded state correspond approximately to the inner contour of the packet (3) whereby the channel is designed for projecting into the packet. The channel can have longitudinally divided wall members (4, 5) which are U-shaped in cross-section. Their side arms (6, 7, 8, 9) e engage in each other and sealing strips (10, 11) are mounted between the engaging side warms. ADVANTAGE - Easier filling whereby the goods do not stick to the walls of the precompacting chamber.
