A metal/synthetic laminate is made by coating a metal part pref. a foil, with a dissolved or dispersed polyurethane, removing the liq. phase, and extrusion-coating of the polyurethane -coated part with a melt of a thermoplastic synthetic. The metal is a foil 0.01-0.5mm thick, and the dry PU film is 1-80 (10-30) microns thick. The polyurethane is (i) a dispersion of a linear poly ester urethane, pref. from a polyalkylene adipate or phthalate with mol. wt. 1000-8000 (2000), a diisocyanate (toluylene or hexameth-lene diisocyanate), and diamines with COOH or SO3H gps., opt. mixed with other (cyclo)aliphatic diamines, (ii) a soln. of a polyurethane from a polyester adipate (polybutylene or polybutylene/hexylene adipate) with mol.wt. 1000-8000, and hexamethylene diisocyanate, opt. mixed with isophorone diisocyanate in ratio 1-99:99-1, and opt. diol chain-extenders and/or isophorone diamine, (iii) a polyurethane soln., pref. OH-terminated, cross-linked with tri- or polyisocyanates, or (iv) a polyurethane soln. with terminal NCO gps., reacted with amine chain-extenders.
