Combination preparation for immunosuppressive therapy - contains prostacyclin which increases utility of cyclosporin A in preventing organ rejection in transplant therapy

Combination prepn. for immunosuppressive therapy comprises a prostacyclin analogue (I) and cyclosporin A (II). (I) and (II) are present in separate dosing units and are in the wt. ratio of 1:10-100000. Component (I) consists pref. of 10 micro-g-10 mg of lloprost. USE/ADVANTAGE - (II) is a known immunosuppressor which may be used, e.g., to prevent rejection of organs in transplant surgery. Its usefulness is, however, limited by the side effects which it causes, such as increased blood pressure. (II) is also toxic to endothelial cells. The addn. of (I) increases the length of time over which (II) is useful and hence its application in transplant surgery. The prepn. may be administered by infusion or intramuscular injection. (I) may also be administered orally. Typical doses of (I) are 10 pg-1 mg (esp. 0.01-10 micro-g)/kg (i.v.) or 10 micro-g-500 mg/kg (p.o.).
