Thermoplastic moulding compsns. based on an ABS resin opt. together with an aromatic polycarbonate are characterised by the presence of 0.01-15 (esp. 0.1-3) wt.% of a bisphenol additive of formula (I). R = H, 1-5C alkyl or 1-5C alkoxy; X = a band, 1-15C alkyl(id)ene, -O-, -S-, -SO-, -SO2-, -CO- or -COO-; and m and n = 0, 1 or 2, esp. 0. A specifically claimed compsn. comprises (i) 100-20 pts.wt. of a specified ABS; (ii) 0-80 pts.wt. of an aromatic polycarboante; and (iii) 0.01-15 (esp. 0.1-3) pts.wt. (per 100 pts.wt. of total compsn.) of (I). The specified ABS comrpises (A) 5-100 (pref. 5-80) wt.% of a graft copolymer of (A1) 10-95 (pref. 10-80) wt.% of a mixt. of (a) 50-90 wt.% styrene, alpha-Me-styrene, ring-substd. styrene and/or Me emthacrylate and 8b) 50-10 wt.% (meth) acrylonitrile, Me methacrylate, maleic anhydride and/or an N-substd. maleimide on (A2) 90-5 (pref. 90-20) wt.% of a rubber with Ty = 0 deg.C or below; and (B) 95-0 (pref. 95-20) wt.% of a thermoplastic copolymer based on (B1) 90-50 wt.% of monomers. (A1) (a) and (B2) 50-10 wt.% of monomers (A1)(b). USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsns. can be used in mfr. of housings for domestic appliances or parts for use in vehicles, building or elec. engineering. (I) are used as stabilisers to prevent surface defects in parts made from the compsn., being effective at higher temps. than previously-used phosphoric acid esters, while at the same time imparting improvements in impact strength.
