The noble metals ruthenium, rhodium, palladium and platinum supported on alumina, silica, silica/alumina and magnesia (MgO) are capable of converting organic carbonates to ethers. The production of ethers and/or polyethers, especially alkyl polyethers according to the process according to the invention avoids the use of organic alkylating agents such as alkyl halides CH3Cl and alkyl sulphates (CH3)2SO4. The ethers produced have the same application as ethers in the known art produced in other ways. They especially find application as special solvents. |
