Method for breaking up the stems of plants with fibre at the moment of harvest, which aims to activate tedding and to facilitate the entrance into the plant of the microorganisms which are responsible for breaking down the pectic cements, characterised in that part or all of the zone of the stem lying between the root and the base of the inflorescence is bent at several locations until the cuticle breaks open. It may call upon a device consisting of non-adjoining cylinders 1 and 1' the profile of which, in longitudinal section, has projecting parts 2 and hollowed parts 3 which interpenetrate, the projecting parts having roughnesses on their circumference which are intended to entrain the vegetable matter. According to a variant, not shown, the device has fixed projecting parts, the matter being forced into the system by entraining means. <IMAGE> |
