A peptide exhibiting a substantial sequence analogy with LHRH and having the formula (I), wherein X may be a GLY, D-ALA, D-SER, D-TRP or D-HIS residue and Y may be a -GLY-CO-NH2 residue or ethylamide. Fragments of peptides according to the formula with 4-10, 5-10, 6-10 or 7-10 amino acids. These peptides may display agonist or antagonist activity for LHRH and may be used for treating afflictions related to gynecology or reproduction endocrinology, cancerous afflictions affecting the gonads or the secondary sexual organs, and afflictions of a psychiatric nature in part involving behaviour disorders leading to sexual aggressiveness. These peptides can also be used for exploring the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, and in a radioimmunoassay or biological assay method for assaying biological fluids, or in a tissue biopsy method.
