A system is disclosed for controlling the operation of a reciprocating device, such as a reciprocating fluid pump, utilized within a small diameter wellbore logging tool. The system includes a pump having an input in fluid communication with the source fluid, a 4-way sliding valve in fluid communication with an output of the pump for controlling the flow of fluid to operate the reciprocating device, and a 4-way control valve in fluid communication with the output of the pump for controlling the flow of fluid to operate the sliding valve.
