<p>PURPOSE:To improve the access speed better than what is provided with a separate inverting means and to reduce the cost of the automatic changer by selecting the right and wrong side of a storage medium and inverting a recording and reproducing means itself. CONSTITUTION:When a recording and reproducing command is issued from a host system to a storage medium 102, which side is a required recording and reproducing side of the medium 102 is decided. Then, if it is the wrong side, a recording and reproducing means 103 is turned around an axis 108 by 180 deg., and if it is the right side, the means 103 remains unchanged. Then, in order to move the medium 102 to the position of the means 103, a holding storage means 101 is turned around an axis 101a. Then, the medium 102 is loaded into the means 103 by a carrier means and the recording and reproducing is performed with a recording and reproducing head 106. Thus, by inverting the recording and reproducing means itself, the access speed is improved better than what is provided with a separate inverting means.</p> |
