PURPOSE:To obtain fuel oil for a diesel engine which is improved in ignitability and generates an exhaust gas containing an extremely small amount of toxic substances by incorporating dimethyl acetal as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:Fuel oil for a diesel engine is obtained by incorporating dimethyl acetal as an active ingredient. As compared with conventional mineral oil fuel, this fuel oil produces an extremely small amount of graphite, generates an exhaust gas that contains a very little NOx and has high ignitability and thermal efficiency. Due to these merits, this fuel oil can be used advantageously as diesel engine oil. Further, due to its good compatibility with mineral oil, this fuel oil can be mixed with mineral oil to obtain a fuel oil composition. In this case, the amount of dimethyl acetal may account for 50 to 100vol% of the total amount of the fuel oil and the mineral oil. This fuel oil exhibits good performance when employed for a collision diffusion layer air-charging combustion type diesel engine.
