Process for high sensitivity determn. of heavy metals in water comprises first electrochemically depositing the metal atoms on an electrode, and subsequently analysing these using a surface-specific method. Pref. the electrode is made of Co, Ni, Cu, Ru, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt, Au or alloys of these. Analysis of the heavy metal atoms deposited on the electrode surface is carried out e.g. by photoelectron spectroscopy of Augerelectron spectropscopy. USE/ADVANTAGE - The procedure allows determn. of metals such as Hg, Pb and Cd in water down to a concn. of 10 power -3 to 10 power -4 micrograms/l.
