PURPOSE:To eliminate unnecessary work and to suppress an increase in cost by storing a program which depends upon the kind of a machine and a program which is independent in machine kind in different memories, and allowing one program to call the other program mutually. CONSTITUTION:This controller is equipped with a microcomputer (CPU) 6, a ROM 7 for the machine kind dependent program as a read-only memory, a ROM 8 for the machine kind independent program, a font memory ROM 9, a RAM 10 for readable and writable operation, and a page buffer (RAM for image) 11. Then the machine kind dependent program and machine kind independent program are stored in the ROMs 7 and 8, respectively, and one program is enabled to call the other program. Consequently, when PROMs are used as the ROMs 7 and 8 and only one program is modified, the ROM 7 (8) where the program is stored in detached and thrown away and a new ROM for conversion is stored with the modified program and only fitted to perform modifying operation for the program.
