This synchroniser includes a splined sleeve (1) which can slide over the splines (2a, 2b) of a hub (2) and is capable of coupling to a gear (3) by positive engagement of an extreme part of its splines (1a) with the complementary teeth (4) of the gear (3); in order to ensure that the sleeve (1) is held axially in its positively engaged position with the gear (3), the flanks of the splines (2a, 2b, 1a) of the hub (2) and of the sleeve (1) respectively exhibit inclined bearing surfaces (5a, 6b; 5b, 6a) which are conjugate and relieved, capable of interacting by mutual bearing when the sleeve (1) is in the positive engagement position, the inclination of these bearing surfaces being such that the load transmitting the torque via the flanks of these splines gives rise to an axial thrust of the sleeve (1) towards the gear (3). This arrangement makes sure that the sleeve operates without release in the positively engaged position via simple and inexpensive means, whilst improving the accuracy on the position of the ridges of the teeth and on the centring of the sleeve (1). <IMAGE>
