Retractable headrest particularly for a fold-down backrest of a motor vehicle rear seat, consisting, particularly, of a backrest (2) which can be folded down forwards, and a headrest support (7), a spindle (26) allowing the rotation of the said support on the backrest, and a device for slaving the position of the headrest (3) with respect to the said rotation spindle (26), characterised by the fact that the rotation spindle (26) is rigidly connected to a control arm (37), the free end of which carries an articulated control rod (34) substantially parallel to the flank of the backrest, and the lower end of which is articulated to a lower element (19) which supports the spindle (29) about which the backrest folds down. <IMAGE>
