The metod is used for reducing the amount of environmentally harmful products in the exhaust gases of an IC engine. The exhaust ducts (321(1) to 323(4)) are connected to a common manifold (K1) which increases progressively in cross-sectional area as each exhaust duct is connected to it. The exhaust gases generate shock waves in the manifold (K) and cause a rise in temp. Additional air is supplied through the air duct (6) in the last exhaust duct (323(4)) in order to utilise this rise in temp. to burn away any harmful products. Air is drawn through the ducts (5,6) by the ejector effect of the exhaust gases in the last duct (323(4). USE - IC engine with exhaust gas purification.
