The machine is automotive (10), and has one front and one rear travel roller (12,13), one of which at least is motor-driven. Between these rollers, counterposed to the direction of travel and successively fitted, are a milling head (18) and at least one sweeping roller (20), all of which are motor-driven and engaging against the surface being prepared. The firmness with which the milling head is applied against the surface is adjustable. The sweeping rollers have a delivery device (24) extending their whole length which conducts away to a collection container material loosened by the milling head and picked up by the sweeping rollers.
