Transmitting information signals in pipelines - using pipeline material as conductive medium for coded acoustic waves

The information signals are transmitted in pipelines (1) such that the pipe material is used as conductive medium for coded acoustic waves. Pref. the pipeline(s) has in appropriate spacings (12) sound couplers (10,11), the spacing corresponding to the reach of the acoustic waves. The couplers are capable to transmit acoustic oscillations to the pipe material and/or to receive such oscillations from the pipe. The oscillations are either regenerated and amplified for conducting as an acoustic wave to the next coupler, or conducted outwards as signals to be further processed. Alternatively, the medium (0), contg. in the pipeline is used as a conductor for coded acoustic waves. USE/ADVANTAGE - Monitoring remote heating pipelines etc., with facility to apply subsequently modern sensor systems.
