Processing waste salts, dusts and sludges - to give dust-like product suitable for dumping

In the treatment and prepn. for dumping of flue gas scrubber salts, filter dusts and sludges, products from flue gas cleaning and/or clarification sludges or related products from waste incinerators, fossil fuel combustion units and similar equipment, the novelty comprises (i) mixing the initial products with an alkali (ne earth) metal (hydr)oxide and/or carbonate in the wt. ratio 20-2:1; (ii) slurrying the mixt. with water and heating at up to 120 deg.C for 30-60 mins.; and (iii) spraying the suspension into a furnace and heating at 150-350 deg.C to obtain a dry dust-like final product. ADVANTAGE - The process achieves up to 70% vol. redn. of the initail product, converts heavy metal and other salts into non-volatile innocuous products and gives a dumpable final product which does not produce polluting eluates.
