<p>A converting unit converts from multi-value image data per pixel to binarized image data per pixel with M pixels in a row direction and N pixels in a column direction. An image reducing unit reduces from the binarized image data of M pixels in the row direction and N pixels in the column direction to curtailed pixel data of m pixels in the row direction and n pixels in the column direction. The image reducing unit reduces the binarised pixel data using a pattern of curtailment pixel positions which are different for adjacent lines. As a result, a viewer of the curtailed pixel data does not sense gaps in the output image.
