PURPOSE:To prevent the invasion of shavings of rubber, dust, air, and the like into an ink supply system and the leakage of ink from the ink supply system by sealing a hole with a second hollow stylus during a period of time other than the completion of ink cartridge insertion. CONSTITUTION:When an ink cartridge is not inserted, a second hollow stylus 12 is positioned by a hole opening/closing means 13 so as to seal a hole 15 of a first hollow stylus 11. When the ink cartridge is removed, the ink cartridge 2 is pulled off rightward. This movement of the ink cartridge 2 is detected by a sensor. The hole opening/closing means 13 is actuated on a signal from the sensor to return the second hollow stylus 12 to the former position to seal the hole 15. Namely, the second hollow stylus 12 seals the hole 15 when the ink cartridge is not inserted ; it releases the hole 15 to allow ink to be supplied to a recording head only when the ink cartridge is completely inserted. |
