The subject of the present invention is a device for destroying cigarette butts or cigar stubs. It consists of a container (1) which may or may not be associated with an ash tray (8) and includes on the one hand a top filling stopper (3) and a bottom drainage stopper (5) and, on the other hand, one or more holes (6) formed in its side wall, having a diameter slightly greater than that of the cigarettes or cigars, the abovementioned container being filled, up to a level below the abovementioned holes, with a liquid which is able to dissolve the cigarette paper and, possibly, tobacco. It may be applied to producing ash trays of all sizes, intended both for domestic use and for use in commercial premises such as restaurants, hypermarkets, etc. The device which forms the subject of the invention may also be used with any existing ash tray. <IMAGE>
