The stripping pliers use a pair of relatively displaced grip plates (21,22) with rigid gripping elements at the front end for engaging the inserted electrical lead and a pair of simultaneously displaced stripping plates (31,32). Each plate has a stripping tool (40) at its front end incorporating a cutting blade. Each of the gripping elements associated with the grip plates (21, 22) are formed by a second pair of similar stripping tools with the same cross-section with both sets of cutting edges brought into intimate contact with one another, to act as a single cutting edge during the stripping phase. Pref. each cutting edge has a curved central section.
