In a friction welding arrangement in which the driven vibratory unit carries a tool for accommodating a part to be joined, the drive is to be excited in such a way that the vibratory unit with the tool vibrates at the mechanical resonance frequency. In the case of different tools, the resonance frequency is also different. Matching is effected according to the invention by a microprocessor which changes the working frequency of the alternating current signal for exciting the drive until the current intensity of the alternating current signal is minimal at a predetermined amplitude of vibration.
