There is a metallic gasket comprising: a compensating plate having a combustion chamber hole and a folded edge which is formed by folding back the edge on the side of this hole; an intermediate plate laminated onto the compensating plate; and an elastic metal base plate having a bead which is laminated onto at least one of the compensating and intermediate plates. This gasket is further provided with a compensating portion having a predetermined thickness consisting of the compensating plate and the edges of the intermediate plate and base plate. There is also another metallic gasket comprising an elastic metal base plate having a circular bead so as to surround the combustion chamber hole and a compensating portion which is provided for the edge on the side of the combustion chamber hole of the base plate so as to surround this hole. A spring constant of the bead increases as the distance from the bolt fastening portion increases, thereby allowing the uniform sealing pressure to be applied to the sealing portion. A thickness of the compensating portion gradually increases as the distance from the bolt fastening portion increases. With this gasket, the increase and decrease in the gap between the deck surfaces are prevented and the stable sealing effect is obtained. |
