Impervious plug for wiring systems - has outer wall, longer inner tube, and conductors entering sockets in intermediate space between sealing ring and outermost heat-shrunk tube

A longitudinally sealed plug for wiring systems has a body with an axial extension; it has a space between its outer exterior and the outer surface of this extension, and at least one inserted contact and the conductors connected to it fit in this space. A heat-shrink tube is fixed on the outside and a seal closes off the space between the extension and the heat-shrink tube, with at least one conductor inside that space. This seal is pref. a hot melt adhesive and/or butyl rubber. The example shown has the outer wall (6) and the inner extension (7), both being made of suitable plastic material and thus leaving the intermediate space (9). A number of conductors (3) each with end contact (5), fit into this space and are insulated. A length of heat-shrink tubing (1) is fitted over the end of the outer wall. The body can be suitablye shaped for conveniently holding the tubing (1). In addn. a ring (2) of sealing material is fitted over the extension (8); this ring is pref. thermoplastic. When the structure shown has been assembled it is heated to shrink the tube (1) and soften the seal (2). This prevents ingress of moisture e.g. at the point (4). ADVANTAGE - The plug layout completely prevents the ingress of any liq. (pref. also gasses) along the conductors or their insulating sleeving. The invention also covers a method of producing the plug.
