PURPOSE:To change a target value according to the running state by using the initial value of the width of the target value of the input rotating speed of a continuously variable transmission when the change of the throttle opening is eliminated, and changing the width of the target value when the throttle opening is not changed. CONSTITUTION:The control device 6 of a continuously variable transmission 4 controls the shift ratio so as to make the input rotating speed detected by a detecting means 47 to the preset target value based on the engine performance when the throttle opening of an engine 1 detected by a detecting means 11 is a preset value. When the change of the throttle opening is eliminated, the initial value of the width of the target value is used in response to variables indicating the change request and stability request of the vehicle running state. When the throttle opening is not changed, the width of the target value is increased in response to the change of the vehicle running state or variables determined by the input signal invariant time and the means set signal. Which characteristic should be emphasized can be properly judged and controlled according to the power performance, fuel consumption performance, control stability, transmission efficiency, desire and taste of a driver, and running state. |
