PURPOSE: To simply prepare an acid catalyst in a short time by passing a non- aqueous soln. of a salt of the acid catalyst through a column accommodating a cation exchange resin to carry out ion-exchange and recover the catalyst as a soln. of a free acid catalyst having a specified structure. CONSTITUTION: A non-aqueous soln. of a base such as ammonium salt and alkali metal salt of an acid catalyst such as org. sulfonic acid is supplied in an ion exchange column accommodating a cation exchange resin. Then, the soln. is subjected to ion-exchange into a free acid catalyst having the formula H-A-R (A is a residue of sulfonic acid, sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid, R is R<1> or the formula I, and R<1> is 4-20C alkyl group, alkylaryl group or the like), which is recovered from the column. Thus, the acid catalyst is prepared within a short time by a non-complex method. |
