PURPOSE:To improve cycle life performance by giving water repellency to a negative electrode plate surface and containing a liquid absorbing material. CONSTITUTION:To give water repellency to a negative electrode plate surface, for example, a polypropylene fine fiber mainly consisting glass fiber used as an electrolytic holding body to be interposed between a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate. A liquid absorbing material contained in the negative electrode plate is preferably a resin consisting of sulfoalkyl acrylate. Hence, even when a rapid charge by a large current is carried out, the extrusion of an electrolyte from the negative electrode plate is suppressed, and the absorption of oxygen gas in the negative electrode plate is satisfactorily conducted, resulting in an efficient progress of the charge, so that the cycle life performance can be improved also to the charge by the large current within a short time. |
