Spliced cable joint cover

The cables (12,14) are joined at the splice (16) which is filled with a rubber-based putty (22). A rubber-based mastic layer (24) covers the splice and adjacent end sections of the cables. A layer of polyethylene net (26) and covering rubber sleeve (28) extend over the mastic layer. A core, which supports the sleeve in a pre-stretched form, is formed by a coiled flexible plastics strip, which is withdrawn to leave the sleeve in place. The sleeve contracts onto the polyethylene net and adheres to the mastic through the perforations.
