PURPOSE:To execute correct pattern recognition by converting color image into color distribution by executing prescribed filtering processing, dividing the color distribution into plural color areas and then collating binary image formed by regarding the colors of respective area as the same color with a reference pattern. CONSTITUTION:An inputted color image is stored in plural color image memories 1-1 to 1-3. Images filtered by band pass type filtering means 2-1 to 2-3 are stored in image memories 3-1 to 3-3. Respective images are converted into color distribution in a color space by a color distribution dividing means 4 and the color distribution is divided into plural color areas based upon brightness and hue. Corresponding color codes are applied to picture elements belonging to respective color areas by regarding them as the same color and the color-coded picture elements are stored in a color code image memory 5. A binary image forming means 6 scans the memory 5, applies picture element value '1' when the color codes of respective picture elements are '1' or picture element value '0' in other cases to form binary images, which are stored in binary image memories 7-1 to 7-n and pattern recognition is executed by a pattern recognizing means 8. |
