Process for optimizing the functioning of a multi-cylinder, fuel-injection engine for motor vehicles, characterised in that it consists in injecting, during the period of a start-up (n+1), a quantity (Qn+1) of fuel into the engine equal to a theoretical quantity (Qo) calculated as a function of the speed of rotation and of the temperature of the engine at the start-up, multiplied by a correction factor (Fc<n+1>) which is determined by repetition on the basis of: - the value of the correction factor (Fc<n>) determined during the previous start-up (n) - the stoppage or rest time (t<n>) between the moment of its last stoppage (Ts<n>) and the moment of the starting (Td<n+1>). r
