Mechanical gearbox characterised by: A primary shaft (1) in its rotation driving a number of gearwheels equal to the number of speeds, (ratios) in the box. A hollow secondary shaft (2) inside which there moves a speed-selector slider (3). The end of the slider, through the use of a recess (4) controls the forward and backward movement (or vice versa) of a sliding gearwheel with dog clutch (5). This sliding gearwheel with dog clutch, during its movement, engages in the circular cavity formed inside each floating gearwheel (6) and therefore becomes secured to it. The hollow floating gearwheels perform their rotation about the secondary shaft through the use of ball bearings; they become secured to the secondary shaft only when they are engaged by the dog clutch. <IMAGE>
