<p>A joint between two pipes (1,2) at least one of which is of plastics material, the pipes having at their facing ends outwardly extending annular flanges (5,2) providing mating surfaces (3,4) between the two pipes generally normal to the direction of the pipes; means for connecting the two pipes to urge together the mating surfaces of the flanges; characterised in that the flange of the plastics pipe or pipes carries an annular supporting hoop (15) of relatively rigid material whereby to assist the flanged plastics pipe resist radially inward forces.
