<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the elution of the various components included in glass substrates on the substrate surfaces of the liquid crystal display device which crimps a liquid crystal material between a pair of the transparent substrates by coating both the front and rear surfaces of the transparent substrates with hard carbon films. CONSTITUTION:The hard carbon films 2, 2' are provided on both the front and rear surfaces of the transparent substrates 1 and transparent electrodes for picture element electrodes are deposited by vapor deposition, etc., thereon and are patterned to prescribed patterns to form the picture element electrodes 4. Prescribed known stages are executed in succession thereto to obtain the liquid crystal display device. The hard carbon films 2, 2' are provided on both the surfaces of the substrates 1 in such a manner, by which the elution of the alkaline oxides, such as Na2O, K2O and BeO of the glass components of the transparent substrates 1 onto the surfaces of the substrates 1 and the consequent deterioration of the liquid crystal material are prevented. The display quality is, therefore, improved and the formation at a low temp. is attained. In addition, the yield is improved.</p> |
