PURPOSE:To obtain magnetic powder for magnetic recording medium having high recording density by treating oxide series magnetic powder or metal magnetic powder with compound having functional group of at least one kind of epoxy group, carboxyl group, hydroxyl group, thionyl group and amino group and the specific hydrocarbon radical. CONSTITUTION:The oxide series powder of Fe2O3, Fe3O4, etc., or the metal powder of Fe, Cr, Fe-Ni, etc., as the magnetic powder for magnetic recording medium, is charged into a fluidized bed vessel 2 from a raw material tank 1. On the other hand, in the vessel 2, steam of the compound containing the functional group of at least one kind of epoxy group, carboxyl group, hydroxyl group, thionyl group and amino group and epoxydation oleyl alcohol, etc., having the hydrocarbon radical of >=8 methylene chains, is heated at 120-250 deg.C by a heater 6, and the fluidized bed is formed under condition of <=10mmHg O2 partial pressure, and the above magnetic powder is supplied therein and treated. The magnetic powder having excellent magnetic characteristic for the magnetic recording medium of magnetic tape, etc., is manufactured. |
