A protective jacket for workers in contaminated areas consists of a tightly woven polyester fabric which is chemically resistant on the outside and has a microporous Pu coating on the inside. The jacket (1,2) has a sliding clasp fastener (3) whose fabric backing has stitched seams (4,5) which are covered by a closure strip (6). The closure strip (6) is attached to one part of the jacket (1) by a stitched seam (7) and to the other part (2) by a toggle sliding clasp fastener (8). Both the seam (7) and a seam (11) passing through the fabric backing (12) of the toggle sliding clasp fastener (8) are welded to polyurethane strips (13,14).
