The hot and cold water mixing tap has a housing (1) mounted on a tubular support (10) which is attached to the edge of a sink or hand basin. The housing has two parallel passageways for the hot and the cold water to flow separately upwards to the mixing valve (3) and a third passageway for the mixed water to flow downwards to a pipe (13) which is connected to one end of a flexible hose (14). The other end of the hose is connected to a hand-held spray head which fits in a socket (16) forming part of the housing. The possibility of used water being drawn back into the spray head is prevented by fitting a valve (25) in a distance piece (21) fitted between the mixing valve and the housing.
