For a production of glycosides, especially of steroidal glycosides, molecular iodine is used as a reaction catalyst, wherein an alcohol and/or phenol, especially a hydroxy-steroid, is glycosylated, such that the glycosylation is performed in one single step and without extensive laboratory measures, such as nitrogen gassing and/or extremely high temperatures, and the avoidance of halogenated glycosides and toxic reaction catalysts, such as for example Ag2O, Ag2CO3, PbCO3, Hg(CN)2, etc. and the avoidance of the formation of ortho esters. The steroidal glycoside obtained in this way possesses valuable pharmacological properties, in particular it exhibits a cell-destruction activity free of side effects on malignant cells and a drive-enhancing activity as well. |
