摘要 <p>A method of tilted homeotropic orientation treatment in which a substrate is rubbed in an appropriate direction and then subjected to alignment with a homeotropic orientation agent. The rubbing is performed with use of a roller loaded appropriately while moving a table on which a substrate is put in a horizontal direction. The tilt angles of liquid crystal molecules can be controlled by changing the load applied to the rubbing roller. Liquid crystal cells in which a first and a second liquid crystal cells, in each of which a liquid crystal material having negative anisotropy of dielectric constant is filled, are joined so that the tilt directions of the liquid crystal molecules filled in the first and the second liquid crystal cells are opposite to each other. The double-layered ECB liquid crystal cell having the same characteristics in the normal direction of the cell as that of the single-layered ECB liquid crystal cell can respond at a higher speed, i.e., its response-recovery time is one-fourth of that of the single-layered ECB liquid crystal cell.</p>
