PURPOSE:To set the curved part to a prescribed curvature angle in a roughly straight state, to facilitate the insertion, and to improve the operability by providing a first control means for controlling the curved part to a prescribed curvature angle, and a second control means for bringing a first control means to actuation control. CONSTITUTION:The endoscope 1 is constituted of, for instance, a slender and flexible inserting part 4, a holding part 5 of a thick diameter, a flexible universal cable 6, and a connector 3. On the outer sheath of the holding part 5, a curvature switch 16 for controlling the curvature direction of a curved part 8, a switch 29 for setting the curved part 8 to, for instance, a curvature angle in a roughly straight state, and each switch are provided. To the curvature switch 16, a signal line provided in a universal cable 6 is connected, the signal line is connected to a curvature switch control circuit 21 provided in a UCA 2 through the connector 3, and also, the switch 29 is connected to USM control circuits 22, 23. When the switch 29 is depressed, the curved part 8 is curved in the lower or the upper direction, becomes a roughly straight state that a curvature angle is zero degree, the insertion is facilitated, and the operability is improved.
