NEW MATERIAL:ES-242 compound expressed by the formula (R1 is H, OH or acetoxy; R2 is OH or acetoxy). USE:The compound expressed by the formula has nerve cell protecting action and antagonistic action of N-methyl-D-aspartic acid receptor and is useful for prevention and treatment of nerve disorder, dementia, apoplexy, hypoglycemia, transient ischemic attack, epilepsy, Huntington's chorea, etc. PREPARATION:A microbial strain (e.g. verticillium sp. FERM-P 2604) belonging to the genus Verticillium is cultured, isolated and collected according to the ordinary method to provide the compound expressed by the formula. Physicochemical properties of the compound expressed by the formula are as follows: Appearance, pale yellow crystal; molecular weight, 604; molecular formula, C34H36O10; melting point, 233-237 deg.C; specific rotation, [alpha] =theta +11 deg.(C=0.46 methanol); solubility, readily soluble in methanol, acetone, etc., and insoluble in water and n-hexane. |
