PURPOSE:To obtain an oxidation-resistant material suitable as rocket nozzle, etc., having excellent oxidation resistance and heat resistance by impregnating a carbonaceous material with metal silicon and reacting the metal silicon with the carbonaceous material to form silicon carbide. CONSTITUTION:A carbonaceous material such as isotropic graphite material, felt-like material made of carbonaceous fiber, spherical carbon material or pyrocarbon is prepared. Then the carbonaceous material is impregnated with metal silicon by a method of bringing the carbonaceous material into contact with vapor of metal silicon, etc. Then the carbonaceous material is heated in an inert atmosphere or under reduced pressure or in vacuum, the impregnated metal silicon is made to react with the carbonaceous material and converted into silicon carbide to give an oxidation-resistant material. Consequently, the more an amount of metal silicon to be impregnated is used a material having the more excellent oxidation resistance can be obtained and the prepared oxidation-resistant material is suitably used for various heat-resistant parts especially in an oxygen atmosphere. |
