PURPOSE:To obtain a ceramic composite material capable of attaining remarkable improvement in fracture toughness value by dispersing coiled Si3N4 fiber in a matrix consisting essentially of one or more compounds such as Al2O3, ZrO2, SiC, etc. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic composite material obtained by preparing a matrix consisting essentially of one or more compounds such as alpha- or beta-Al2O3, monoclinic or cubic system ZrO2, tetragonal system ZrO2 containing MgO, etc., beta-Si3N4, SiC, etc., and dispersing coiled Si3N4 fiber having 1-100mum coil diameter, 10-200mu length and 10-100 turns number of coil winding based on 100mum coil length as the remainder in 60-99wt.%, especially 80-95wt.% aforementioned matrix. The resultant ceramic composite material obtained by the aforementioned method is high-strength and highly tough ceramics, having the above-mentioned characteristics and usable as mechanical structural parts to which conventional ceramic materials are hardly applied. |
