A tube handling tool used in joining tubes and tube caps has a mandrel (1) and collect jaws (23). The jaws (23) are attached to a support (2) which is clamped to the mandrel (1). An outer cone (3) slides axially to close the jaws (23) and grip the work piece. The outer cone (3) is moved by rotating pins (14) which have eccentric tongues (16) bearing against recesses (17) in the support (2). In the open position the clearance between the mandrel (1) and the bore formed by the jaws (23) is sufficient to allow a tube to be readily inserted. USE/ADVANTAGE - Thin tubes can be held with a controlled force and there is no movement in the axial direction when the jaws close.
