PURPOSE: To reduce power loss by providing a plurality of holes that are arranged over the surface of a protection structure and where seawater passes, enters, and contacts the layer of an electrode. CONSTITUTION: An electrode includes a layer 1 made of a flexible electrically conductive material with resistance against chlorine - alkali, and the layer 1 has a plurality of holes 4 so that surrounding seawater freely flows out of the layer 1 while the electrode is installed. The layer 1 is held between protective structures 2 and 3 that are made of material that is resistive to chlorine - alkali, is flexible, and is mechanically resistive. Each of the structures 2 and 3 has a contact surface with essentially the same size as that of the layer 1 and the structures 2 and 3 protect the layer 1 from a mechanical damage when transporting, fixing, and using the electrode. |
