The invention relates to a combination of a protective mask and a traditional gas mask, in which one may use both a light and favourable plane filter for protective masks and filter cartridges suitable for special gases, which are enclosed in a metal or plastic casing. Characteristic of the invention is that the ribs of the protective mask have been formed into a cylinder, which supports the plane filter when the plane filter is used, and which functions as an adapter for the filter cartridge when filter cartridges are used. <IMAGE>
