PURPOSE: To extend a life and to reduce heating by forming abrasive grains with sintered sol-gel alumina filaments having a practically constant cross section along the length. CONSTITUTION: Filament-like abrasive grains have a practically constant cross section and are stuck to a base material by maker coating. The abrasive grains are made of sinteredα-alumina crystals having at least one aspect ratio, a practically constant cross section, and a size below 2μm.
