The present invention relates to air bars for drying for example coatings applied to webs, such as photosensitive films. The invention provides an apparatus for directing a stream of gas into contact with a traveling web of material. The apparatus comprises a housing structure mounted adjacent to the traveling web of material, and a source of pressurized gas coupled to the housing. The invention also provides a means for directing pressurized gas into contact with the traveling web of material and a means for changing the angle of impingement of the pressurized gas with the traveling web of material. 3171b/17
