A connector comprises male and female parts (13, 12) adapted to engage one another through an opening (20) in a vehicle panel (19). The parts have projecting pins (37, 34) adapted to enter grooves (29, 27) in the side walls (31) of a frame (11) secured to the panel (19) when the connector parts make initial mating contact through the opening (20). The male part (13) is then pushed in a direction perpendicular to the coupling direction so that its pins (37) slide along oblique grooves (30) and the pins (34) of the female pan (12) simultaneously slide along grooves (28) thereby forcing the parts into a fully coupled condition. When fully mated the parts can be covered by flexible grommets (14, 15) secured to the panel (19) by metal fixing elements (16, 17). During the sliding movement the parts are kept together by receiving plates (32) on part (12) which embrace part (13) and by a rod (33) slidably received in a groove (36). <IMAGE> |
